Student Council FAQs – 2025

1. Who can run for Student Council?

  • Students in grades 6–8 who are in good standing with attendance and behavior, have parent/guardian permission, and secure 3 staff endorsements.

2. How do I apply?

  • Complete the Student Council Application Form. Submit by Friday, September 26 @ 9:00 PM.

3. When can I start campaigning?

  • Students may start campaigning once their application is submitted and approved. Campaign Week is Sept 22–26.

4. What counts as a staff endorsement?

  • Each student needs 3 endorsements from teachers or staff members. Staff complete a Google Form to confirm their support.

5. How do I submit my speech?

  • Speeches are due Wednesday, October 1. Submit typed (max 2 page) or recorded (max 2 minutes) speeches via Google Classroom.

6. What should be in my speech?

  • Introduce yourself (name, grade, position you’re running for)

  • Why you want to serve on Student Council

  • Leadership qualities or experience

  • At least one idea for Student Council this year

7. When is Election Day?

  • Thursday, October 2. Voting will occur during the school day, and winners will be announced on Friday October 3.

9. What are the rules for campaigning?

  • Campaign materials must be positive, respectful, and follow all school guidelines.

  • Only students who have submitted a completed application and have all endorsements can campaign.

  • Can I change my speech after submitting it?

    • Only if it’s before the October 1 deadline. Make sure to update the file in Google Classroom.

Next Steps for Student Council Candidates

  1. Submit Your Application

    • Complete the Student Council Application Form via the QR code or website link.

    • Deadline: Friday, September 26 @ 9:00 PM.

    • Only approved applications can campaign.

  2. Campaigning

    • You may start campaigning once your application is submitted and approved.

    • Keep materials positive, respectful, and follow school rules.

    • Campaign Week: Sept 22–26.

  3. Staff Endorsements

    • Each candidate needs 3 staff endorsements.

    • Must be submitted before or along with your speech by Wednesday, October 1.

    • Staff complete the Google Form — students do not need to submit endorsements themselves.

  4. Google Classroom Access

    • Once your application is approved, you will receive the Google Classroom code.

    • Join to upload your speech, view Constitution & Bylaws, and receive updates.

  5. Speech Submission

    • Due: Wednesday, October 1

    • Format: Typed (max 2 page) OR Video (max 2 minutes)

    • Include: introduction, leadership qualities, why you want to serve, and one idea for Student Council

  6. Election Day

    • Thursday, October 2

    • Voting occurs during the school day; winners will be announced after votes are tallied.

Tip: Submit your application early to maximize campaign time, and make sure endorsements are submitted on time to stay eligible!
